It took me a while to get up the nerve to read this book based on the comments and "hype" around it and how "VILE" of a book this was. Ultimately, I gave in and said LET'S DO IT...
Author Duncan Ralston created a brilliant story of a man who was trying to rid himself of all the wrong in his life and came up with a plan to rebirth himself into a new person. The entire story takes place in a sleazy motel room (woom) that has history for him. It jumps between timelines in a way that you feel like you are in the moment though it is only the main character telling a prostitute this random stories - though they are not random at all. Everything ties together in the end, with an wonderful awakening for the characters.
While I expected this story to be fill with gratuitous violence and gore, it surprised me that it wasn't especially because of the comments I had read in Facebook groups. I would have been okay with that, but the book didn't need it to be shocking. Yes, some of the content can be a trigger for some, Ralston did it in a way that didn't exploit it (in my opinion - Of course, some snowflakes who can't handle certain topics might feel differently).
The entire book was much better than I expected, honestly it was damn near perfect. Extreme horror and splatterpunk gets a bad rap for being thrown together with half-assed plots and horrible editing, this book is so far from this that I am standing for an ovation. I can't wait to dive into another Duncan Ralston book.
