It was almost closing time when Nico waltzed into The Rainbow Mirage, shouting his arrival. His trademark dramatic entrance never failed to make Ren smile.
She had called him late the night before to talk about the events of the last few days. He was always a brilliant listener. He didn’t say a word—just allowed Ren to spout out her thoughts. She told him about arguing with Avery, the upcoming exhibition, and the renovations she wanted to do with the gallery.
They could have spoken over the phone for the last part, but she wanted him there in person to understand her vision.
As they strolled the gallery, Ren indicated which walls she wanted removed and new walls erected, and Nico took notes. “This is going to be a big job. Might be pricey.”
“And that, my love, is where you come in.” She gave a wiggle of her brow without finishing her thought, because they knew each other so well that he understood.
“Tit for tat. I’ll give Tony the Handyman a call tomorrow and get him to erect more than your walls.” Just then, a rumble on the ceiling caused Nico to dart his eyes upward.
“Avery. I’m letting her use the studio for her reshoot to get ready for this exhibit.”
“For a second there, I thought the ‘Ghost of Teagan Past’ arrived and was wreaking havoc on us.”
“No, just Avery Present. I’m giving her space, just like I did Teagan. She wants to be the one to choose the artwork for this opening.”
Nico widened his eyes in horror, just as she did when Avery presented the deal. “No. We’ll wind up with naked photos of Jessie Spano drawn in charcoal. Please tell me you nipped that idea in the butt.”
“It’s ‘in the bud,’ and I have no clue who Jessie Spano is.”
“It’s butt because she’s going to make an ass out of this gallery. And Jessie Spano is the next Dorothy Zbornak, honey. Get out from under the rock.” Nico always referenced pop culture. Most of the new ones went over her head since she buried herself in art, not television.
