CHAPTER 6

Nico’s handsome smile greeted Ren as she came down the stairs from her second-floor apartment. She and Teagan bought the place a few years ago, after falling in love with it. With two spacious bedrooms, one was a home studio, while the larger one at the back was their bedroom. Teagan took the den at the front to sort out any business needs they might have. The balcony stretched across the front of the house where they spent most mornings enjoying breakfast and the morning bird’s songs. Now, it sat unused, filled with painful memories that made it hard for Ren to enjoy most things about the home they once shared.

At least one thing remained the same after Teagan’s death: Nico wore tight leather pants, black boots, and only a vest over his torso. It was typical of Nico on a Friday night. A man on a mission. He held out his arm for Ren to hook hers around as she locked up the house for the evening.

“I’m sure you’d rock these heals better than I would.”

“You got that right. Now let’s get us some hotties for the night.”

It was a typical Friday night, busy and hopping with women and men ready to unwind from a busy week. The Pendulum was one of the few places in the city where one was free to be as queer and kinky as one liked.
